The global water crisis: Not just taps and toilets!

Thursday, May 27, 2010 18:00-19:30, Hotel Hellsten Luntmakargatan 68 11351 Stockholm
Water is a finite resource and under increasing pressure from population growth, urbanisation and economic growth. Climate change adds further complexity. The water crisis hits the poor the hardest. Millions lack access to safe water because they are locked out by poverty, inequality and failures of governance.

In his presentation Dr Joakim Harlin will give an overview of global water issues and focus on key problems related to the management and development of water resources.

Dr. Harlin, previously with the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute and SWECO AB, is now Senior Water Resources Advisor with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Dr. Harlin, a Swede, was raised in Zimbabwe.
